Tick Talk – Let’s Talk About Ticks

A few weeks ago, Henry was enjoying a hike with his besties when he picked up a couple unwelcome guests. The photos show just how small an adult black legged tick is. It’s roughly the size of a sesame seed.
It’s important to know that while veterinary chemical preventatives should kill the tick, they still have to bite to be poisoned. We recommend layering your prevention with repellents and thorough checks to keep you and your family members safe.
At the end of each hike, the dogs jump up on a rock or picnic table and we thoroughly check for ticks. Once we get home, we go through their coat again to ensure we haven’t missed any. Pay special attention to the base of their ears, head, neck, armpits, paws, and groin.
Know the symptoms of Lyme disease and get tested if you suspect you or your dog have contracted it.
*Caution for those with cats at home: Essential oils can be toxic to cats. Research your oils, never spray them near the cats, and discontinue if your cat shows any signs of distress.
